Reds from Patrimonio
by Jane Augustine
2020 Patrimonio Rouge
France | Corsica
Muriel Giudicelli’s wines continue to be among the most elegant and refined Patrimonios we import. Hers have a weightless touch, a feathery texture, and unfurl with sumptuous fruit that eschews rusticity and some of the meatier, more moody qualities we find around the region. Floral and tart, it will pair nicely with a warm soup or stew glossed with a glug of good olive oil, or consider a selection of Mediterranean dips—muhammara, baba ganoush, and labneh with za’atar and pita toasts.
2024 Vin de France Rouge “Sempre Cuntentu”
France | Corsica
A bottle of Sempre Cuntentu might make a statement at your dinner table for two reasons. For one, if guests are over, it’s unlikely everyone will have tried a wine from Corsica, let alone be able to pronounce its grape variety, Sciacarellu (sha-ka-REL-oo). The bottling will please both French and Italian wine lovers, charm natural wine fanatics, and pique the interest of those who like bold, generous reds. Second, the label art is so loud and inviting you can practically hear the laughter depicted in the cartoon wineglass—a sound likely to be echoed in real life while passing this cuvée around.
