The nearly 120 years that Bastien Jolivet’s small plot of Syrah vines have spent drawing sustenance deep from the granite soils of Saint-Joseph have left a steely stamp on Jolivet’s Cuvée 1907.

It is a real-deal northern Rhône roasted-slope Syrah that walks the tightrope perfectly between creamy fruit, meaty tannins, and fresh spine.

This small parcel has a fruit-forward, approachable style, yet with intense spice and licorice in there as well, perhaps from the deep-rooted old Syrah vines.

With a nose of gunflint and suave Marsanne fruit, it has length and finesse; extremely limited availability

The “Emporium” is sourced exclusively from the Fourvier lieu-dit and sees about a year more in demi-muid and barrel than his standard Côte-Rôtie.

The greatest southern Saint-Josephs recall the wines of Hermitage, and the greatest northern examples resemble Côte-Rôtie. André’s are certainly among the finest, and always have great density despite their seeming weightlessness and elegant bouquet.
